박경귀 아산시장은 지난 27일 미 육군 제8군 사령관인 윌러드 벌러슨(Willard Burleson)으로부터 감사패를 받았다.
이번 감사패 수여는 ‘성웅이순신축제’에 주한미군을 적극 초청하는 등 한미동맹을 공고히 하고자 노력한 공로를 인정받아 이뤄졌으며, 아산시를 방문한 미 육군 제8군 사령부 정치군사고문인 김태업 장군을 통해 전달됐다.
이 자리에서 박 시장은 “양국 간의 동맹은 행동으로 나타내어질 때 그 의미를 다한다”고 강조하며 “이번 ‘제63회 성웅이순신축제’에도 주한미군과 가족들의 많은 관심을 바라고 ‘노 젓기’와 ‘마라톤대회’에도 주한미군들이 적극 참가할 수 있도록 독려 바란다”고 말했다.
이에 김 장군은 “그동안 주한미군 생활의 편리와 다양한 문화 체험을 마련해 주시기 위해 힘써주심에 감사하며, 시정에 필요한 일이 있다면 적극 협조하겠다”고 답했다.
